Whistle Punk Double IPA by Sebago Brewing Co
Brewery: Sebago Brewing Co
Beer Style: Double IPA
Beer God’s Notes
Original Tasting Notes: this was pretty well balanced. I could tell it was hoppy but it wasn’t bitey.
One of the most frustrating parts of enjoying good beer is when you’re not sure if a beer is fresh or not. This isn’t as much of a problem with stouts and darker beers. But with IPAs and DIPAs — fresh is good. The hops will lose some of their characteristics pretty quickly.
So, when I review a beer like this, without a date on the can — it’s hard to say “wow this beer was really balanced” when in reality it could have been “this tasted really balanced since a lot of the hop profile faded away”.
If this normally tasted the way that I had it, it was hoppy and you could tell — but it had that hoppy mouthfeel without being overly bitter. The malt bill in this definitely balanced Whistle Punk out.
Big juicy American hops burst from this Double IPA. Whistle Punk has an abundance of tropical fruit, citrus and pine aroma and flavor from the great hop blend. It will be released several times throughout the year. Look for it in 16 oz. 4 pack cans.
