XPA 6.0 by Woodcock Brothers Brewery
Brewery: Woodcock Brothers Brewery, Wilson, NY
Beer Style: “Experimental” IPA
This is a really nice “East Coast” IPA. Definitely, hop forward with a nice balanced malt backbone. I’m always glad when I take the drive out to Wilson because it’s incredibly scenic. But when I found out that this beer was almost gone I had to rush out there. I’m glad that I did. WCB have been surprising me more and more lately. If you’ve been out there or tried their beers and didn’t like them — try again, you might be surprised.
XPA 6.0 is the 6th version of this beer, and I think I’ve only tried 4.0 before. It’s also Woodcock Brother’s second canned beer after Niagara Lager.
A banquet of hop aromas and flavor with upfront earthy tones that give way to tropical and stone fruit with a slight pine accent. This beer will evolve and change with every new batch.
XPA is a super hoppy IPA with a constantly changing hop bill; this new version is brewed with Mosaic, Citra, and Azacca hops. According to the brewery, XPA 6.0 is “very much an ‘east coast’ style IPA that is vibrantly packed with citrusy, herbal flavors, has a moderate bitterness and a very light malt profile.”
