Cold Brew Coffee Lager by Saranac Brewing Co.
Brewery: Saranac Brewing Co (FX Matt)
Beer Style: Coffee Lager
I will be completely honest and blunt with you. I don’t normally like Saranac’s beers. They are the one brewery where I keep giving them chance after chance and they let me down every year. They put out a ton of new beers every year and I’m always enticed by a few of them. And every year, I’m reminded that they are light on flavor and usually let me down.
The last 2 Saranac beers I’ve tried haven’t let me down, and I’m a bit confused. I have another one in my fridge and I’ll be extremely happy if I enjoy that one too. That would put me 3 for 3 on the last 3 Saranac beers I’ve bought.
When I saw this, I had my doubts. I don’t usually really enjoy lagers. And now you’re going to add coffee to it? Cold brew coffee is really delicious, smooth, and easy to drink. And honestly, they did a wonderful job bringing the smoothness out of the cold brew and add it into the lager. The coffee didn’t overwhelm the mouthfeel of the beer either. It was still light and airy like lagers usually are.
Overall, Saranac’s Cold Brew Coffee Lager was an absolute surprise to me and an enjoyable #showerbeer too.
Not just another coffee beer. An amber lager with a cold brewed coffee twist.
