Beer God’s Notes

The Juice by Maine’s Peak Organic Brewing Company really hits on the unfiltered IPA/pale ale craze that I am personally a big fan of. “Wicked Dry Hopped” makes this beer nice and juicy with lots of citrus bounding out of the can and onto your tongue.

There was a flavor in this that kept hitting me.  It wasn’t unpleasant by any means, but I was frustrated that I couldn’t put my finger on it.  I was left with an aftertaste that I’ve had before.  I think that it was one of the hops.

After enjoying one of these, I can definitely tell you this.  The Juice is most definitely worth the squeeze.

The experimentation with “wicked dry-hopping” is in full effect at Peak this Fall. After last Summer’s release of Super Fresh – a wicked dry-hopped pilsner, Peak is set to release The Juice – a wicked dry-hopped pale ale. Super Fresh drew nationwide fanfare with its huge tropical hop character, set over a clean pilsner body. The Juice builds on this concept, with bright, fruity hop notes set over a clean Pale Ale base.  The Juice features the newest hop to Peak’s repertoire, the berry-like Azacca hop.

At 5.8%, The Juice is a lighter bodied pale ale with an extremely crisp finish. By adding tons of Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe and Azacca to the whirlpool and dry-hop, the aroma and flavor explodes with huge tangerine and berry notes.

“We landed on something really awesome with Super Fresh last year,” explained Peak Founder/Brewer Jon Cadoux. “The response we got from that release was fantastic. People kept telling us how much the aroma just blew them away and how the hop profile really shined through the light pilsner body. We figured we could build on that a bit, and The Juice is what we came up with – a light, aromatic pale ale with some amazing flavor and a super clean body.”

The Juice will be available starting August 8th nationwide, and will be brewed year-round by Peak. It will be available in both draft and four-pack 16oz cans.
