Beer God’s Notes

Original Tasting Notes: Finally tapped my 2015 @muskokabrewery Winter Beard and it was fantastic.

This also might easily be one of my favorite beer pictures. It was warm enough to go outside for a beer picture, but it was also the perfect “gray” or late-winter.

The beer itself was everything I hoped it would be.  I drove to Canada (I live 10 mins from an Ontario LCBO store). And confused the ever living hell out of the American and Canadia border guards. They both couldn’t figure out why an American was going to Canada to buy beer. Well, I had a beard, I like beer, and I’d heard really great things about this beer. Need I say more?

Winter Beard was really nice.  The cranberry (which I’ve been told is an almost impossible flavor to work with in beer) was there, but really just in the finish. It had a nice sweet/tartness to it that the chocolate didn’t mask. Of course, I’m curious what this would have tasted like fresh, but aged a while it really mellowed everything out.  The chocolate was definitely there, but it was also a little muted.

Description

Our Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout is rich and sturdy with roasted dark chocolate malts, real cocoa, dark chocolate, and freshly harvested local cranberries. Pair that with a slightly higher alcohol content and you’ll find yourself sharing this bottle of joy all winter long.
